where the day begins, taiwan

march 10, 2026

i made a short, last minute trip back to taiwan last week.

it wasn't the usual kind of visit. instead of revisiting all the places i used to go, i wanted to spend the time quietly observing everyday patterns around me.

taiwan, much like the rest of the world, has modernized quickly. but traditional markets still preserve a slower, older rhythm of life.

each morning, i wandered through the neighborhood market, watching the city wake up.

vendors unpacked crates of vegetables and arranged fruits in careful piles, while regular customers arrived early, stopping by on foot, bicycle, or scooter to pick up fresh ingredients. how long have mornings like this unfolded here? how many years have these vendors spent behind their stalls - perhaps across multiple generations?

for a little while, it felt good just to simply stand there and watch - a quiet reminder that life continues through the small routines that begin each day.
